I’m one of those people that gets cravings for fried potatoes and when I do I can’t eat any alternatives or replacements. I have definitely tried. It doesn’t work for me. I eat an entire tray of sweet potato fries and I’m still craving potatoes. So nowadays I understand my body and I just nip it in the bud early on. I eat what I’m craving and afterwards I don’t think about it. Of course this does not work for everybody, but personally I find it more mindful to just listen to your body and eat what feels right. Usually, I eat rather healthfully, but if I need to, I find that making fries at home satiates my cravings better, plus you know exactly what’s going in them.

Here’s how I make some garlic fries to satisfy my need for fried potatoes.

Ingredients:

2-3 red potatoes (peeled and cut into long, thin pieces)

1/2 cup of vegetable oil

2-3 cloves of garlic

Oregano

Salt

Sugar

Optional: Chili Oil

First I mince the garlic and set it in the vegetable oil. Then, I pour that into a large pan and set the stove to medium-high heat.

You will notice the oil is ready when you see the garlic turn a light brown or if you spray a few droplets of water in the pan and the oil sizzles.

Slowly put the cut potatoes into the oil (be sure not to splatter oil, it will burn). Now let the potatoes cook for 10-15 minutes depending on how thick your fries are. Here I like to put in some chili oil to give the fries a kick.

After they’ve cooked to a light gold color, take them out and place on a paper towel or oil absorbing paper. Put on a plate and add your oregano, a pinch of salt and sugar.

Now your fries are ready to enjoy!

If you don’t want all the oil you can always bake the potatoes with olive oil, preseasoned, but again I find that I prefer to just get the craving out of the way.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy!
